Benton and Rivera
This lesson went with the Big Idea for this unit because when you are drawing a caricature of cartoon, you are telling a story. In order for people to know what is going on in the cartoon, you need to explain through pictures and words. The Benton and Rivera piece that I did was showing the political issues of large and small businesses involving the government. The government is requiring small business owners to pay for healthcare for their employees even though most businesses cannot afford it. People like Donald Trump, however, have so much money that this doesn't impact them at all. I liked doing this piece because this is a political issue I feel very strongly about and making it into a funny cartoon helped me to express my feelings. This would be a good activity to do in the classrooms because the students can express their feelings about whatever subject they want by making into either a serious or a funny cartoon. This allows students to not only draw, but to write their opinions about certain topics while they are making art in the process.
